How to get Lincoln Memorial Undercroft tickets
Timed-entry tickets are required for visitors age 2 and older. The National Park Service offers advance reservations and a limited same-day option.
Advance tickets open 30 days before each visit
New 30-day inventory is released through Recreation.gov at 11 a.m. ET each day. Admission is free, but advance reservations carry a $1 service fee. One person can reserve up to six tickets. A portion of next-day tickets is also released at 4 p.m. ET.
Free same-day tickets are distributed beginning at 8:45 a.m. at the Korean War Veterans Memorial kiosk on Daniel Chester French Drive, just south of the Lincoln Memorial. They are first come, first served and can disappear quickly.
Lincoln Memorial Undercroft bag and visitor rules
The undercroft uses security screening, and there are no lockers. Bags larger than 18 by 16 by 8 inches are not allowed. Other prohibited items include weapons and sharp metal objects, glass or ceramic containers, aerosols, open food and drinks, recreational equipment and animals other than service animals.
Strollers must fold to no more than 21 by 29 inches. Bottled water and baby formula in clear bottles are permitted under the official rules. Review the current Recreation.gov instructions before leaving home because security policies can change.
Is the Lincoln Memorial Undercroft worth visiting?
If the Lincoln Memorial is already on your route, the undercroft is an easy addition and a new free thing to do in Washington DC. The concrete chamber is the draw; the exhibits add construction history and context about the memorial’s role in public gatherings.
Book ahead if your schedule is tight. Walk-up tickets mean stopping at the kiosk early and accepting whatever time remains. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial and Reflecting Pool are close enough to visit before or after your slot.
