The fair describes itself as one of the largest free events on the East Coast. “Free” covers admission and many activities, not rides, games, food or parking. The Arlington County Fair 2026 dates and hours also change by day, and indoor areas do not open until Friday.

DC Spot tips before you go

Use the Ballston shuttle. There is no public parking at the fairgrounds, and the free shuttle is the simplest option for many visitors.
Buy ride credits before the deadline. Compare presale offers with regular bundles before August 12 at 5 p.m.
Pick the right hours. Weekend nights bring the biggest fair atmosphere, while early daytime hours can be easier for families.
Use the Sensory Tent. It offers a calmer space when the midway and entertainment areas feel overwhelming.
Check the final lineup. Performers and food vendors were still being finalized when this article was prepared.
Watch the weather. Rides and outdoor programming can change because of heat, rain or storms.
